My 6 year old daughter has very thick course straight hair that won't stay styled?

most children have the thickest and best kind of hair to deal with. since she is only 6 it is probably more of a maintenance issue than anything. does she cry at the sight of a brush or is she good about letting you brush it? if she's isn't then you need to get a daily leave in detangler. one to try is Biolage Daily Leave In Tonic. it's in a spray bottle (found at most professional salons). after she takes a bath or shower spray it in then use a wide tooth comb (not a brush) start at the ends and underneath to distribute the product thru her hair. if you use a brush when the hair is wet it is more likely to snap and break.

if she is great about letting you comb and brush her hair then you need good shampoo and conditioner. ones to try:

Redken All Soft

Matrix Sleek line

Redken Smooth Down

Biolage Hydrating shampoo and Conditioning Balm

using a flat iron will only damage her otherwise undamaged hair and make it flatter (don't recommend it) plus at 6 that is too much work for you.

if you can learn how to braid her hair (works better when the hair is damp) this will also help because keeping it in the braid until the hair fully dries and then after you take the braid out the hair should be wavy (this should last until you wash her hair again). if you don't know how to braid then go to the nearest Hair Cuttery and the stylist will be happy to teach you how to braid her hair. if you don't live near a Hair Cuttery then your local salon is great too.

one more thing, before you braid her hair you should put one styling product in it (then comb the product thru before braiding) one to try:

Redken Clean Lift gel

its water based so it won't build up on the hair.

also razoring her hair is not a good idea it will only make her coarse hair fuzzy and harder to manage.

hope i've helped and happy holidays

Maybe you can invest in some really good shampoo and a leave in conditioner. Try getting her hair razored. It will make it lighter and easier to manage.

You might want to go see a hairdresser to ask them what they could recommend. You can also braid it when you wash it. Or you can flat iron it with a Maxiglide. I know she's 6 and you may not be ready to flat iron, but definitely contact a hairdresser for recommendations as to what products that could be used for course hair. They are many different brands out there that are specially formulated for thick and course hair. All you need to do is find the right one for your daughter's hair. Don't go using anything that can harm her hair now and in the future, go to a real professional and even more than one, to get good consultations and then try seeing if that can solve your problem.

So cut it off and send it to the kids at the children's cancer hospital. You know some mothers would be delighted to see their babies with hair again.

I swear, some people.

You should have her hair thinned out. This is usually the best solution, as razoring her hair will cause it to frizz further, as it does not leave the hair with clean lines. This may make her hair seem damaged on top of it all... Thinning hair is a process using texturizing shears. Your stylist will thin your daughter's hair out in the mid back region, where you cannot see that she is missing some bulk. I do this for many of my clients, both adult and children. Hope this helps. Good luck!

You can just oull it back in a pnytail, and braid it and stuff like that- if yu keep it braded for a few days, maybe it will be little curly
