Hairstyles for thick hair???????????????

I have thick long (3inches past the shoulder) auburn hair. It is really frizzy and annoying. I wear it in a pony tail and braids a lot but I'm getting tired of them. Anything else I could do, (if I let it down it gets all poofy and frizzy all over.) So i want some quick and easy hairstyles that I can do.

I don't use electric hair stylers either

My hair seems really similar to yours. Once it gets that long (like it is now), I tend to wear it in a ponytail... all the time. When I'm going out, I do blow dry it and flat iron it though. I found that when my hair was shorter, it was a lot easier to do, and there wasn't as much of it to puff around, and if I really wanted to fall back on the ol' ponytail, I'd use little clips just to pull the front back.

I have found some products that I like:

Smooth Down shampoo and conditioner by Redken and Sunsilk Strighten-up 24/7 creme. I use the creme before I dry my hair, and after I style it, I use Garnier Fructis fiber gum putty.

I know using a dryer and flat iron are time-consuming and harsh on my hair, but if I do it right out of the shower, I can go a couple of days without washing it again, and it actually flattens out a bit more the second day.

your hairstylist should be able to "thin" your hair our -- i would say other than that, just use a lot of product that made for sleeking and smoothing hair. good luck!

sounds like your hair has some serious potential!

thick hair is a good thing as lond as you can manage it

winnie the pooh has a great detangler which

makes your hair very manageable.

try baby oil.

if you were to flat iron your hair you could do a lot more with it. but since it's poofy and thick and frizzy you can't you could try putting it into a bun

I have thick, long, and frizzy hair, too. My mom used the kind of cissors that looks like a comb and that pair of cissors kind of "unthickens" my hair. And after I wash my hair, I put olive oil on it to make it less poofy and more shiny and healthy-looking. It works great. As for the hairstyles, go to seventeen.com and you can practice lots of them on your hair. I think it wastes time, so I just wear a ponytail instead, although now I let down my hair more often than I used to since I use olive oil.

Ah, the dreaded hair!

First, try to thin it, get it layered, it will make you feel much better, free!

2. A creative ponytail... try different accesories

3. 1/2 a ponytail

4. French braid (those are hard to do

5. bun

Use a good conditioner like aussie three minute miracle, and once a week use a hot oil conditioner. Then after you wash and condition use a frizz controller, like frizz ease. Blow dry straight, then using small pieces of hair I would get a straightener and try to straighten. Then after dry and straight use garnier leave in conditioner. I twist my hair up in the back and use a clip and do it up with hair curled on ends. Or I clip some up and leave over half down.

buy a straightener or frizz-ease and go natural

If you like to wear your hair up, try a simple up-twist and use a clip, also there are websites that you can upload your picture to, and choose different hairstyles etc, for a sneak peek at a new look. Your hair stylist could also schedule a "practice session" for you and give professional advise!

I have really think hair also, but ever since I have been using Bio Silk (silk therapy) products, my hair has been a lot more calm, and it has lost the frizz. It's really smooth too. It smells great also...Now I know Bio Silk can be really expensive, but it works the best, and it is WAY worth it!

I had this same problem. A hairstylist told me that I wasn't using enough mousse on my hair. So after my shower, when my hair is still wet (but towel-dried a bit), I put quite a bit of mousse. I use one of the ones that doesn't make my hair sticky. Finesse touchables is good as is the mousse from the Got 2 Be line, I think it's called Got 2 Be curly, or kinky. Make sure you aren't combing or brushing your hair once it is dry, this will only make any frizziness worse. Also, once you use plenty of mousse, let your hair air-dry. If you haven't had a trim in awhile, get one to get the dry ends off. After you wash your hair, make sure you aren't rubbing it with a towel to dry it. Gently blot the water out or wrap it up in the towel (that's what I do) Good Luck.

thanks for posting this.. same problem also!

First of all, get your hair layered and thinned out at a salon. Then buy a good conditioner to help with the frizzines. Sunsilk hydra in the pink bottle is great. If you buy it at Walgreens you can get it free with a mail in rebate. Don't use heat on your hair. After you wash it, use pink hair lotion. Towel dry it, but don't use a hair dryer- it will make it frizz more. Put your hair up while it is still damp. This will help it stick together and look smoother. You could use claw clips to hold it up. Your could part it in the middle and wear it in two messy buns (sounds silly but will get tons of compliments- its cute). If you want to try to wear it down, use moose to turn the frizz into curls. On bad hair days, use fun headbands, scarves, or fun girly hats (J Lo looking hats are great!)

Tame the frizz by using frizz ease or any other shine serum. Cut your hair in long layers, and use styling products like moose to make it curly.
